Dr. Chukwunonso Henry Debem
Dr. Chukwunonso Henry Debem is a seasoned public health practitioner and a teacher with over 23 years combined experience in public/community health services and teaching. He has experience in public health programming and strategic planning, Health policy development, epidemiological reviews, management of surveys and surveillance projects, data analytics, monitoring and evaluation, and teaching/mentoring of post-graduate students.
He has worked in several infectious disease areas, which include Tuberculosis, Malaria, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). His public health experience includes over 14 years of providing Technical Support to the Nigeria Ministry of Health in health systems strengthening and disease control, and 10 years of Grant/Cooperative Agreement Management/leadership experience.
Dr. Debem has a doctorate degree (PhD) in public health, Epidemiology specialization from Walden University, Minneapolis, USA, and a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacology and toxicology (Nigeria).
Currently, he teaches and provides dissertation supervisory support to students in the University of Liverpool online MPH programme as a Dissertation Advisor. He has also taught Biostatistics, Health Economics, Research Methods, Epidemiology, International and Global Health, Health Policy and Social Justice, Health Promotion, Behavioural Change and Intervention Design, and supervise students Research Projects in Brunel University London online MPH as a Senior Lecturer. He taught in the University of Roehampton London online MPH programme as a Research Project Supervisor.
Previously, in his active practice in Public Health, Dr. Debem had worked with the Epidemiology and Strategic Information Branch of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Africa / Nigeria as an Epidemiologist and Senior Programme Specialist. He had also worked as a member of the Field Advisory Board (FAB) of the Office of the United States Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC).
Currently, in addition to his active academic practice, Dr. Debem is leading the mission of the G-ROLE Africa Initiative, a non-profit organization, in Africa/Nigeria to restore the dignity of humanity through leadership and citizenship orientation.
In his professional practice, Dr. Debem has proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research designs, data management, and advanced data analysis using the recent versions of SPSS, STATA, and MS Excel statistical packages, with profound expertise in data visualization using applications such as Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Panorama, Microstrategy dossier; and ArcMap (geographic information systems).
